(From Our Glossary Feature)
Rippers are deep-fried hot dogs that are popular mainly in the Northeast and Middle Atlantic states. The term "ripper" comes from the fact that the hot dogs are fried until the precise moment that they burst open, or rip apart. New Jersey seems to be the most popular place to find rippers, but they can also be found in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and several other states on the East Coast.
