There are many top little-known restaurants in the Boston area, some of which Boston's Hidden Restaurants has featured. But what are some of the best Boston restaurants on our site? Read on to see our picks for best restaurants of 2005 in the Boston area. (Note: This Best of 2005 Boston Restaurant page is part of our restaurant features section, which also includes our 2006 Best Boston Restaurants List).

Best American Restaurant, 2005
Laurel, Boston, MA (CLOSED)
Laurel is indeed a special restaurant; located at the edge of the Back Bay and the South End, Laurel is a reasonably-priced upscale restaurant that has an attractive atmosphere and friendly service. What more could you ask for?

Best Chinese Restaurant, 2005
New Taste of Asia, Brookline, MA (CLOSED)
There are many top authentic Chinese restaurants in the Boston area, but for our money, New Taste of Asia may just be the best of them all. Everything at this Coolidge Corner restaurant is fresh, well-prepared, and delicious.

Best Hamburgers, 2005
O'Sullivan's, Somerville, MA
If you like burgers and beer, you can't do much better than O'Sullivan's, a friendly pub located between Porter Square and Inman Square. O'Sullivan's serves up huge slabs of ground beef like the kind you eat at summer BBQs.

Best Indian Restaurant, 2005
Classic India, Quincy, MA (CLOSED)
Classic India, located in Quincy Center, is such a fantastic hidden gem that we were initially hesitant to even include it in Boston's Hidden Restaurants. But include it we did, as Classic India should be on anyone's list Indian restaurants to try.

Best Italian Restaurant, 2005
Ristorante Romanza, Providence, RI (CLOSED)
Cozy, warm, and romantic, Ristorante Romanza is everything an Italian restaurant should be. Sit by one of the fireplaces and sip wine (bring your own, by the way!) while dining on some of the best Italian food on the East Side of Providence.

Best Mexican Restaurant, 2005
El Sarape, Braintree, MA
There aren't many authentic Mexican restaurants in the Boston area, which is what makes El Sarape in the Weymouth Landing section of Braintree so special. If you like dishes with mole sauce, give it a try here, as it is outstanding.

Best Pizza, 2005
The Paddock, Somerville, MA (CLOSED)
The Paddock, a local joint near City Hall in Somerville, serves some of the best pizza in the Boston area, period. Slightly different from the pizzas at Santarpio's and Regina's, the traditional pizzas at the Paddock come very close in quality to those two standouts.

Best Thai Restaurant, 2005
Dok Bua, Brookline, MA
Dok Bua is a quirky little restaurant in a former market that serves truly inspirational Thai cuisine. While there are a few Americanized dishes at Dok Bua, this is the real deal, so if you like authentic Thai food, check out this tiny restaurant near Coolidge Corner.

Best Vietnamese / Cambodian Restaurant, 2005
Apsara, Providence, RI
Perhaps we saved the best for last on this "best of 2005" restaurant list, as Apsara, a hole-in-the-wall in a gritty part of Providence, serves possibly the best Vietnamese and Cambodian food in all of New England. Not much more needs to be said about this tremendous restaurant...
