What do folks consider to be the best neighborhood meat market in the Boston area, especially for steaks, burgers, and steak tips? Are McKinnon's and Savenor's pretty much seen as the best of the lot? Any others? [Go here to post a reply.]

I've never been a big fan of McKinnon's just because it's unnervingly cheap, and I know it costs more than that to raise cattle properly. Not sure about Savenor's. I usually buy from the Whole Foods air chilled butcher case, but a couple other noteworthy shops are good too:
John Dewar and Co., in Wellesley. Great selection of meats including some more exotic varieties: www.johndewarinc.com.
For the more adventurous (and willing to travel), Healthy Buffalo in Epsom, NH has an incredible selection of hard-to-find meats (frozen):

While it's north of Boston, New England Meat Market is legendary. They have terrific fresh meats, house marinaded steak tips, and will do custom cuts for you, all at very reasonable prices.

Quality Meat Market in Rozzie Square is a fantastic halal butcher. He'll grind your beef while you wait and load it up with spices for fantastic kefta if that's your thing. Also a winner for sirloin steaks, fresh cut, and lamb cut to order. Couldn't be a nicer guy either.
Savenor's really is great but at those prices it's a once a year thing, for me.
