Small, intimate, family run place. High ceilings, black accents, an open kitchen with French bistro feel. Mediterranean menu which spans French, Spanish, Italian, American cuisine, such as: escargots, paella, seafood, pork chops, chicken pasta and risotto. Menu changes quarterly. Excellent beer and wine selections which are moderately priced. A great hidden treasure.

Eight/Ten Bar and Grille
8 Norward Street
Everett, MA 02149
Phone: (617) 387-9810

No kidding, this restaurant will be the next 'Hidden Gem' once properly reviewed. In the heart of Everett Square is this little, clean Italian restaurant. The owner uses all his mother's and grandmother's recipes. For $8, $9, $12 you will get entrees that would cost $30 in Boston. All FRESHLY made, from scratch food that is EXTRAordinary. There's even 'Frank Sinatra/Elvis' live entertainment on Saturday night. Casual, delicious, great value. I go once a week. You must try it. You will see that this place is on the verge of being discovered. The Eight/Ten Bar and Grille on Norward Street in Everett. 617-387-9810. Owner is Richie Sasso.

American Barbecue
950 Cummings Center
Beverly, MA 01915
Phone: (978) 921-1212

The American Barbecue in Beverly, MA is one of the finest Southern-style smoked bbq businesses around. They have a location in Rowley, MA as well but I haven't made it there yet. This bbq place has some of the most tender ribs you've ever placed your lips on. It's really all fantastic. Check it out.

Inn at Weathersfield
1342 Route 106
Perkinsville, VT 05151
Phone: (802) 263-9217

Talk about hidden - this place is 'off the map' between Woodstock and Springfield VT. Chef just won Vermont Chef of the Year 2008 and was just named one of the 'Top 10 Culinary Inns in America' by Bon Appetit Magazine.
Great food and wine. A huge emphasis on local products. If you are anywhere in the area (Ludlow, Woodstock, Chester, Springfield), it is not to be missed.

A new place in Marlboro, MA called Devo's Dogs. It is at Trombetta's Farms. Great homemade food. Not just a hot dog truck. Has tons of options for everyone.

Leo's Place
35 JFK Street
Cambridge, MA 02138
Phone: (617) 876-6217

I've lived in Cambridge and Somerville for 12 years. Out of hundreds of locals, few if any said they heard of LP's when I mentioned it. Successfully resisting the homogenization and commercialization of the rest of Harvard Square, yet located right in its heart for 27 years, Leo's Place harkens back to the 50s.
The amazing diner food - unequalled omelettes and french toast, burgers approaching R. F. O'Sullivan's in quality, a variety of lentil soups and other unique offerings - would be enough. But the friendly atmosphere, great music, art, signed photos of noted musical and local personages, and location 1 block from the T keep me coming back.
Except during a couple of short, intense waves of eaters a day, there are plenty of the red, rotating stools available at the counters, while other brunch favorites like The Neighborhood Restaurant in Somerville have long lines outside. Have a seat and strike up a conversation. You'll be smiling soon.
Unpretentious local flavor is not dead in Harvard Square!

Tastings Wine Bar and Bistro
201 Patriot Place
Foxboro, MA 02035
Phone: (508) 203-9463

Recently opened at Patriot Place. Great wine bar, amazing food. Unique small plates and tapas, lots of local produce, seafood and even the beef, pork and lamb are all from New England.
Wine list is excellent, with about 200 labels. They have a private dining romm within the wine storage room that is to die for. This place is hidden in Patriot Place, no signs on Route 1. You have to find this hidden gem, but when you do you'll be happy you did.
