Green Field Churrascaria (CLOSED)
78-80 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA 02134
Do you enjoy eating steak? Lamb? Chicken? Bacon? Pork? Ribs? Would you like to eat them all in one sitting? If so, have we got a place for you; it is called Green Field Churrascaria, and it is a Brazilian restaurant along the eastern edge of the heart of Allston. And the restaurant does this, and a whole lot more, all for a pretty reasonable price overall. Green Field Churrascaria (churrascaria, by the way, is a Portuguese term that means "barbecue house") is an absolutely huge restaurant in an area that has mostly tiny restaurants. Indeed, this Brazilian dining spot, which features a waterfall by the entrance, is sprawling, with room for a number of big groups at the same time. On weeknights, Green Field tends to be fairly empty, giving it an almost cavernous feel. But the interior is oddly appealing for such a large space, with its neon signs and its liberal use of dark wood throughout.
There is no actual menu at Green Field Churrascaria; instead, diners pay a fixed price for their meal, then they get started by going up to the buffet table to grab salads, sushi (yes, sushi), and sides which include rice, beans, yucca (this writer's favorite), yams, collard greens, and fried bananas. Once diners are back at their tables, a person comes over with various meats on skewers, and they keep returning with different kinds of meats every few minutes. It is a fascinating way to have dinner, and one that is surely foreign to people used to traditional ways of having dinner in this country.
Green Field is one of several Brazilian churrascarias that can be found in the Boston area. We are not sure whether it is the best, but once we try some of the others, we will report back on them; one thing is for sure, though; meat lovers should definitely consider heading to Allston to check out this intriguing dining spot.
