Lovely brick walls add to the character of this fine Italian restaurant in the Historic District of New Bedford. I love the risotto and enjoyed Dover sole amount other things. All wonderfully prepared and hot out of the tiny kitchen! Lovely rolls and great service even on New Years Eve.
I highly recommend for a delicious meal in the area of the Whaling Museum and new Wayfarers Inn.

When it comes to restaurants in New Bedford, Cafe Balena is by far and away the top Italian restaurant. The food for starters by Chef Pietro is top notch. From the risotto to a simple new york steak, every dish is seasoned and cooked perfectly. The service is not too bad.. When I first went there Cafe Balena had singing waiters who would play instruments..as time has gone by that is no longer the case and although that takes away from the experience, the food makes up for it. Although the prices are a little more expensive, the experience one has at Cafe Balena is like no other.
