Uses for Pickling Spices Other Than Pickling?

I know that pickling spices are used to make pickles and to pickle items in general, but are pickling spices used in recipes that don't call for pickling? In other words, can they be used for grilling, baking, broiling, or frying meats, or are they sometimes used in soups? I think I recall seeing a restaurant chef using pickling spices when cooking some food on a show on the Food Network recently, but I don't remember what the dish was. [Go here to post a reply.]
